Timber Ridge proudly displays mural panels created by the Friends of Community Public Art of Joliet, Illinois. The artwork on our school's exterior walls celebrates the Fine Arts in Education. Timber Ridge Middle School, the second middle school in Plainfield District 202, opened its doors to students on August 28, 1996. Principal John Harper and Vice Principal Scott Wakeley worked endless hours keeping the school open for 24 hours a day for a week in order to have classrooms ready for over 1000 students. Although the entire school was not complete, students attended classes while construction crews completed the Encore Wing, cafetorium and two gymnasiums. Students brought sack lunches to school and ate in classrooms. Team centers were used to deliver the Encore Classes. Because the gyms and fields were not complete, PE classes met outside on the blacktop areas and indoors in hallways on rainy days.

According to an article in the 1996-1997 yearbook, Timber Ridge Middle School cost 14 million dollars to construct. The school name was created by Kelly Krotz, a seventh grader at the time. She was present to cut the ribbon at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in early October. (View the entire article as it appeared in the yearbook.)

The school colors were selected by the School Board members and the principal. The school mascot, the timberwolf, was determined by a vote of the student body.
